# How to read TABC licenses and mixed beverage receipts — texas-alcohol-license-records

> What a TABC license status means, who reports mixed beverage receipts, and what the files cannot tell you.

## How to read these records

### The license

Each row of the TABC file is a primary license or permit for one place of business, with its type, its status
and its dates. One owner can hold several licenses at several addresses; a record lists the owner's others.
“Active” is the status in the file of Oct 1, 2026. Expired, surrendered or cancelled licenses stay searchable
with their status, but are not listed on the city pages. Neither are the 12,401 licenses that still carry the
status Active after their expiration date — mostly temporary event permits whose event is over: their record says so.

### The receipts

Holders subject to the mixed beverage gross receipts tax — mixed beverage permits and private clubs, mostly —
report each month their receipts from liquor, wine, beer and cover charges to the Texas Comptroller. The figures
here are those reports, month by month since January 2007, through Aug 2026.

- A package store, a grocery or a beer-and-wine retailer does not report under this tax: no receipts here does
not mean no sales.
- A year with fewer than 12 months reported is a partial year, not a decline.
- Receipts are attached to a license through its permit number. Receipts of closed establishments whose license
is no longer in the TABC file are not shown.

### What is not here

Server certifications (individuals), complaints and violations, and the TABC's credit-law delinquent list.
Establishments whose trade name and owner are both a person's name are searchable but not listed on any page.
